Los Angeles County firefighters stop 3.5-acre brush fire within an hour
Los Angeles County firefighters managed to stop progress on a 3.5-acre brush fire around 1 p.m. Tuesday, within an hour of its flare-up.
The fire broke out near Sierra Highway and Highway 14, fire officials said.
By 5:30 p.m., the fire was completely out, Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
The fire was first reported at about an
acre in size around 12:20 p.m, according to Fire Department spokeswoman Vanessa Lozano.
Units were still on the scene an hour after the fire began, with aerial units assisting.
“We have approximately 3- to 3.5 acres with 10 percent containment and forward progress halted,” Joey Marrone, a spokesman with the Fire Department, said before the complete knockdown was announced.
Winds had pushed the fire east, according to fire officials, who also said there’s moderate fuel and that two agencies, city of Los Angeles fire and Angeles National Forest, were assisting.
Fire officials were called at 12:11 p.m. and on the scene at 12:18 p.m.
No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
The fire was reported near the northbound side of Sierra Highway, near Highway 14.
Within the hour, firefighters reported they had stopped all forward advance of the fire.
By mid-afternoon, containment was reported to be 30 percent.
