AADUSD grants iLEAD’s charter
School to open in the fall; families will be able to enroll children this week
Agua Dulce residents will have a new school to send their children to following the opening of
iLEAD Agua Dulce, a free public charter school that will serve grades TK through 6 this upcoming school year.
The school’s charter was granted by a unanimous vote of the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District governing board, said board President Ken Pfalgraf. As a result, the school will open in the fall and begin enrolling families this week.
“We’re grateful to the governing board for recognizing the value of our specialized curriculum and incredible learning environment,” Amer Kuric, CEO of iLEAD Schools, said in a news release. “iLEAD believes each child should be equipped with the skills and knowledge to achieve his or her fullest potential, and we look forward to serving children and families across the Agua Dulce community.”
Acton-Agua Dulce’s newest school will offer iLEAD’s acclaimed project-based and social-emotional learning approach, iLEAD officials said. The curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to succeed in a 21st-century world.
Families will have the choice of sitebased learning, as well as independent study, “which is no longer just sitting around and working at the kitchen table,” added Sara Brown, a community outreach coordinator for SCVi Charter School and iLEAD schools. The Castaic-based SCVi is the founding campus of iLEAD Schools.
For 10 years, iLEAD schools have promoted individualized instruction, active learning methods and opportunities for self-directed learning, school officials said. With a network of 13 charter schools throughout California and the Midwest, iLEAD empowers learners to become conscientious, compassionate and responsible citizens of the world, and inspires them to become creative thinkers and leaders with a lifelong love of learning, iLEAD officials say.
Prospective families are invited to attend an informational night with Principal Lisa Latimer at 6 p.m. Thursday at 11311 Frascati St., in Agua Dulce, Brown said. “While there, Lisa Latimer will lay out what project-based learning is really about and the options that we have available at the school.”
“Please come,” she added. “Children are welcome (and) if for some reason (you) can’t make it, then please email us because we’d love to connect.”
