A 29-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman face several felony and misdemeanor criminal charges after a series of thefts were reported from the lockers and parked cars of LA Fitness patrons across the Santa Clarita Valley.

At least 18 victims had property including handbags, wallets, and credit cards stolen from them at each of the three LA Fitness locations in the SCV, said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Gyms included facilities on Golden Valley Road, Newhall Ranch Road and Pico Canyon Road.

The arrests were made following an investigation led by Deputy Juan Muralles, of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Impact Team.

On Thursday, CIT detectives submitted their case against the pair to prosecutors at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Miller said.

Each suspect faces at least 10 felony counts and five misdemeanor counts, ranging from commercial burglary to grand theft charges.

The crimes are alleged to have taken place over the last two months.

“They were stealing out of lockers and cars parked at the gyms,” Miller said.

“The couple admitted to their involvement with the thefts at the three local LA Fitness clubs and said they were heading to another LA Fitness in the San Fernando Valley to commit another burglary,” Miller said.

On Monday night, detectives arrested the pair at a Castaic motel room, she said, for “hitting the LA Fitness gyms.”

Detectives seized a large amount of material from the motel room including: handbags, wallets, driver’s licenses, payroll checks, credit cards, mail, key fobs, jewelry, and clothing from local stores.

The pair was also found to be in possession of keys that are commonly used to open community mailboxes, Miller said.

Arrested were Kali Draves, 31, and Louis Jon Hanna, described by Miller as former residents of the SCV.

Bail for Draves and Hanna was set at $200,000 and $190,000, respectively. Each was scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court Wednesday.
