Comedy, theater, music in lineup for The MAIN
August promises to bring the community plenty of laughs and sing-a-long opportunities through a series of comedy and improvisation shows, the city of Santa Clarita announced Friday.
Comedy, theater and musical performances are scheduled to take place at The MAIN, located at 24266 Main St., in Old Town Newhall. Tickets are on sale for each show.
Kevin Strauss, communication specialist with the city of Santa Clarita, said that while these are non-city events, these performances are “great opportunities to show folks that there are highquality shows available at great prices and you don’t have to leave Santa Clarita to see them.”
Comedy Mashup and the Society Comedy Troupe, a group of working comedians and improvisers from Los Angeles who perform every month, will kick off the series. This month’s headliner is Adam Wylie, a comedic and close-up magician who appeared on the CW’s “Masters of Illusion.” The show is scheduled 8 p.m. Friday and geared toward an adult audience. Presale tickets are $12 and $18 on the day of the show.
The Society Troupe will bring what the city calls a “hilarious and energetic” improvisation team as performers encourage the audience to participate while creating improvised music, comedy and scenes — think of the television show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” This show, appropriate for all ages, is 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. Tickets are $12 for seniors and students and $15 for all others.
Theater enthusiasts can look forward to LCAZ Productions’ “27 Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview.” The play focuses on two recruiters who must fill one last spot at a prestigious university to keep their jobs, when “27 eccentric, dimwitted and slightly insane high school seniors are eager to come in for an interview,” the city described in a statement. Performance dates and times are 7 p.m. Aug. 10, 1 and 7 p.m. Aug. 11. and 1 p.m. Aug. 12. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth under 18.
For music lovers, the Sidecar Music Series featuring Austin Jons and the Immortals are scheduled perform 8 p.m. Aug. 25. The band, influenced by the music they heard growing up, will play original blues and rock songs. Tickets are $15.
