State Sen. Scott Wilk, whose district includes Santa Clarita, honored Nola Aronson and Advanced Audiology on Friday as the small business of the month for August.

The business offers hearing healthcare services, including advanced hearing screenings, hearing aid evaluations, fittings and repairs. Assistive listening devices are also available for improved hearing on the phone, with television and in public areas.

Advanced Audiology has served Santa Clarita Valley clients since September 2010 and is considered the largest hearing diagnostics center in the area.

More than 50 clients, staff and government officials witnessed the recognition, which took place in the business’ lobby.

“Nola and her whole group are phenomenal,”Wilk said. “They’ve been helping people for 30 years. (Aronson) does so much for our community.”

The owner grew other practices focused on helping hearing impaired individuals since 1987. She was also a special education teacher and is a breast cancer survivor.

At the event, clients and staff present contributed to Wilk’s appreciation statement, by reminding attendees that Aronson is also an active member of the

community. The organizations she is involved with include College of the Canyons, the Senior Center and Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley.

These are characteristics that could earn a business the small business of the month award, according to Wilk. Besides being in business for years and a member of good standing, the company should give back to its community.

“It’s about pouring back into our community because that’s what makes it special,” the senator said.

Officials like Councilman Bill Miranda, who is a client of Advanced Audiology, agreed with Wilk.

“The good news was that I could hear again,” Miranda said. “What made it even better was the ongoing support that (Aronson), and her staff provided. Not only does she offer great service, but she’s a fantastic community leader.”

Wilk said he and his office started recognizing small businesses every month to salute those that “risk their capital and employ others.” In essence, he added, these businesses drive the economy.

On behalf of the entire Advanced Audiology team, Aronson accepted four certificates for the same recognition Friday, including from Rep. Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, and the city of Santa Clarita.

Humbled, Aronson said, “Thank you, I feel really honored. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for my staff.”
