- By Signal Staff

The SCV Senior Center is launching a new class with artist Susan Taylor Tredway.

Starting in September, the volunteer instructor will lead acrylics and oil art classes from 9 to 11 a.m. every Wednesday.

There is no charge, other than a $25 supply fee. Attendees can purchase from the instructor or bring their own supplies.

Tredway has a diverse artistic background in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and china painting. She has trained with renowned artists like Theodore Lukits, Caroline Carruthers and Margo Lennartz. Tredway’s work has been displayed in various galleries including Barbara Cheatley’s in Claremont and Segal Galleries in Montrose. She also teaches art to children and adults at her Newhall studio and is a member of the Santa Clarita Artists Association and several others.

The Senior Center also offers watercolor classes for beginners at 1:30 p.m. every Friday and at 8:30 a.m. Thursdays for those with some experience. Jewelry making, crochet and knitting are offered at 10 a.m. Mondays.

A Chinese painting workshop and an art club where artists would congregate to paint together have also taken place.

This Thursday, artists will display their works in an art exhibit at the “Doo Wop” concert at the Senior Center, presented by the Senior Center’s Silvertone Singers, starting at 2 p.m. The event is free.

The Senior Center is located at 22900 Market St. For more information, call 661-259-9444 or visit scv-seniorcenter.org.
