Wildcats ready for 10-year reunion
It might not seem like it, but the inaugural graduating class of West Ranch High School received their diplomas a decade ago and are in the midst of planning activities for their reunion on Saturday.
The first class reunion in West Ranch’s history will occur at Wolf Creek Brewery at 6 p.m. Saturday, said Taylor Kellstrom, an organizing committee member. The school has invited all of its alumni to partake in the homecoming rally on Friday before West Ranch officials honor the eight committee members who organized the reunion during the pregame portion of Friday night’s homecoming game.
“There will be a specific alumni section at the game,” Kellstrom said, “but Saturday is the actual reunion where the Class of ’08 will catch up on past memories and have a good time.”
Kellstrom expects more than 125 people to attend the reunion after he created a facebook group to reach out to all of his fellow Wildcats who graced the graduation stage 10 years ago.
Alumni who are interested in attending the class reunion can purchase their tickets at the door of Wolf Creek Brewery, Kellstrom said. “It’s $50 and includes dinner and two drinks.”
“Everybody should attend to catch up with past friends you grew up with,” Kellstrom said. “Life has changed a lot in 10 years and this is an opportunity to have great laughs and enjoy some entertainment.”
Any money that’s leftover from the event will be donated back to West Ranch to provide funding to the programs that are in need, Kellstrom said.
“We are just trying to set the example for those who will follow us. It’s important and every class should have the experience that we did,” Kellstrom said. “We are going in a bit blind (on the reunion) because nobody before us has done it, but it's great to catch up with friends and keep more in touch than we have in the past.”
