Old Town Newhall Chalk Art Festival, Fri-Sun What: Santa Clarita Artists Association (SCAA) will be participating in Old Town Newhall’s Chalk Art Festival this year in two capacities. SCAA artist representatives will be drawing with pastels, a 10’x10’ reproduction of a masterpiece, as other members provide fun art activities for children in front of the SCAA Gallery, located on 6th Street between Railroad and Main. The four main SCAA artists recreating a masterpiece are: Jose Barba, Cathy King, Jenni Sher, and Naomi Young. Personal Sculpture Class (Ages 16+)
What: In concert with her current exhibit, Local Clay, artist and CSUCI assistant professor of art Marianne McGrath will lead students through techniques and concepts that she uses to unlock the unique, expressive potential of highly personalized, small scale ceramic works. In Personal Sculpture, students will work clay and design a small piece to be fired off-site and picked up at the Museum.

What: Learn the history, theory, tools and techniques of three basic printing processes — lino cuts, silkscreens and monotypes. The Land of Light: Art, Science and Play
What: In its second year, “The Land of Light” invites visitors to see and experience art in a whole new way. The event is inspired by artists of all ages and is designed to engage the community through interactive art installations including lighting effects, visual film graphics and displays of science and technology. At sunset, a special lighting ceremony will activate monumental light and video projections, illuminating the variety of exhibitions on display. Exhibits range from two-dimensional works to three-dimensional sculptures, “art cars,” robotics and more. Indoor and outdoor spaces also feature maker stations where guests are encouraged to interact with and add to the various artworks and displays. When: 5-9 p.m.
