City announces weekly street sweeping schedule

- By Signal Staff

The city of Santa Clarita announced its new street sweeping schedule for the fall and winter, as it plans to increase the frequency of cleaning throughout all areas of the city.

Every year around this time, the schedule changes from monthly to weekly sweeping to remove leaves and other debris from gutters.

Street sweeping is scheduled to take place, following trash pickup days, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., starting Monday.

Residents are asked to remove vehicles from the street during sweeping days to allow for complete operation. Streets should remain clear of lawn clippings and tree trimmings like branches, as sweepers will not remove those items, according to the city’s news release issued Wednesday.

Portable basketball hoops should also be removed during sweeping.

The city added that while the sweeper collects dirt and debris, residents are asked to avoid leaving piles of leaves in the street or in yards as “piles of green waste left in front of a home can cause damage to the equipment.”

Leafy debris should be placed in a green waste container instead, which trash service providers offer. This is to ensure that the street sweeper does not become plugged, resulting in street sweeping delays, the city said.

Monthly street sweeping is scheduled to return on Feb. 4.
