Newhall district invites residents to summit
The Newhall School District invites future and current parents, students and stakeholders of the district to its upcoming “NSD 2018 Parent Summit,” happening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
“The event will focus on the arts and the art programs within the Newhall School District,” according to the event’s registration page.
A formal dedication of the district’s newest performing arts theater will kick off the night’s festivities, Superintendent Jeff Pelzel said. “We’ve invited a variety of different guests for the theater dedication,” including former NSD students and performers.
“The whole focus of the night is to really showcase student art and how we value the arts in our district,” Pelzel said. “We’re going to have our music teacher talking about the music program from kindergarten through sixth grade to inform parents what it looks like and why it’s valuable in academic success and learning.”
Art will line the entryway so parents can get a visual impression and see why NSD is so eager to push the arts, Pelzel said. “We’re also going to talk about the performing arts pieces and the theater residencies that are currently available,” including those relating to hip-hop and learning through science.
“We feel like a big part of our success is the arts programming that occurs during the school day,” but, as always, parents drive what they want to see happen while their child is on campus, so they are invited to come out and share what that is, Pelzel said.
