SCV Water Offers Free Gardening Classes

-

It’s fall in the SCV. Leaves are falling and the temperature is dropping, but your landscape can still thrive with proper care. SCV Water is serving up two free November gardening classes that will help you ensure the health of your landscape through fall and into the winter.

Caring for the top 30 plants

You’ve selected and installed plants new in your landscape, but how do you care for them? Join us on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for Caring for the Top 30 Plants for the SCV.

Participants will learn maintenance techniques of the top 30 plants for the SCV (and others) so they’ll thrive in the SCV climate. This class is a followup to the Top 30 Plants for the SCV, but can be attended on its own.

Soils and fertilizers

The health of your plants depends on the soil they’re planted in and the fertilizer you use to help them grow. To improve your “green thumb” potential, come learn about SCV Soils and Fertilizers on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.. You’ll learn which soil is most common in the SCV (and most likely in your yard), and the best fertilizers for your landscape.

The instructor for both classes is John Windsor, a certified arborist and a California certified nurseryman. He has been a horticultural advisor in the SCV for 21 years. He has a teaching credential in horticulture and teaches gardening and landscape classes at the local adult school and the Santa Clarita Department of Parks and Recreation.

All classes are held at SCV Water, 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita. To register and see a complete list of classes, visit yourSCVwater.com or call 661-513-1230 and sign up!
