Holiday Crafts at Placerita Nature Center

-

Create and decorate your own holiday wreaths, centerpieces and ornaments while helping support the Placerita Canyon Nature Center Associates on Dec. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the nature center.

There will be adult and children’s crafts opportunities so it is an event for the entire family. Since this is a fundraising event, there will be charges for the supplies. Cash and checks only, no credit cards will be accepted.

Placerita is an east-west running canyon featuring cool, shaded oak groves, a willow and sycamore-lined seasonal stream and numerous other interesting plant and animal communities. The historic “Oak of the Golden Dream” is the site of California’s original gold discovery in 1842. Another landmark is the Walker Cabin , built by Frank Walker in 1920 for his family.

The Placerita Canyon Nature Center Associates is a nonprofit group that assists the County of Los Angeles in the operation of Placerita Canyon Natural Area. Volunteers host programs, support the collection of local native wild animals, host annual events, and invite the community to come to the center, learn about nature and local history, and take a hike.

In addition, the Docent Naturalist training program occurs once a year in January through March, where volunteers can learn how to lead hikes for elementary school groups.

The nature center offers a variety of activities including family nature walks, docent-led bird walks and a monthly twilight hike. The center is at 19152 Placerita Canyon Road in Newhall. For more information about the craft fair, call Linda Kopatz at (661) 373-1052 or email lindabill.kopatz@ gmail.com.
