Friends of Santa Clarita Library to host author Larry Loftis Aug. 1
The Friends of Santa Clarita Library is scheduled to host a meet-andgreet session with author Larry Loftis on Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Old Town Newhall Library.
Loftis is a former corporate attorney and law professor and an international best-selling author whose works have been translated into multiple languages as well as.
Loftis wrote “Into the Lion's Mouth: The True Story of Dusko Popov: World War II Spy, Patriot, and the Real-Life Inspiration for James Bond,” which came out in 2016, and “Code Name: Lise: The True Story of the Woman Who Became WWII’s Most Highly Decorated Spy,” which was released this year and was named one of the “Best Nonfiction Books to Read in 2019” by Woman’s Day Magazine.
“Into the Lion's Mouth” is an international bestseller and tells the story of Dusko Popov, a globe-trotting double agent during World War II who inspired the character of James Bond. “Code Name” covers the extraordinary true story of Odette Sansom, the British spy who operated in occupied France and fell in love with her commanding officer during World War II.
At the event, Loftis is set to discuss both of his books, which will be available for purchase and are also on sale at Barnes and Noble, and will host a question-andanswer session followed by a book signing.
Tyger White, president of the Friends of Santa Clarita Library, said after he learned that Loftis, who lives in Florida, was doing a book tour, he sprung at the chance to have the author speak in Santa Clarita. White hopes the signing, and events like it, excite the community and help bring awareness to the types of services and activities the local libraries offer and how necessary an institution they are even in the internet age.
“I’m actually reading ‘Into the Lion’s Mouth’ right now, and though both of Larry Loftis’ books are nonfiction, they read like thrillers and every word is true and wellresearched,” White said. “A lot of authors are celebrities to their readers, and it’s great to meet them, shake their hand and get a photo taken and ask them questions one on one. It creates more of a connection with the book.”
The Friends of Santa Clarita Library support the libraries and community of Santa Clarita by organizing author signings and other activities, providing volunteer services, supplying financial support for reading programs and operate the bookstores found within each library branch.
The Old Town Newhall Library is located at 24500 Main St. in Newhall. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the event will run until approximately 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. No reservations are required to attend.
