SCVEDC looks to boost workforce
Local pro-business organization wants to help local employers find local talent to boost economy
The SCV Economic Development Corp. launched a new website to help connect Santa Clarita Valley employers with local talent.
LiveWorkSCV.com is a “comprehensive, highly visible job board that matches SCV career opportunities with SCV residents who want a job closer to home,” the organization said in a news release on Monday.
“We’ve been hearing from companies that when they’re hiring for positions, there’s a disproportionately small pool from the Santa Clarita Valley,” said Holly Schroeder, SCVEDC CEO and President. “They receive applications from Simi Valley, L.A. and the Antelope Valley; why aren’t more local residents applying? We launched the site to help companies find that local talent and help residents find the many great opportunities that exist locally.”
That’s essentially the meaning behind the name of the website: live and work locally. One goal the SCV business community and local elected officials have long emphasized is the effort to reduce the volume of people commuting outside of the valley to help reduce traffic congestion and keep workers closer to home and their families by offering places to “live, work and play.”
The new resource, free to local businesses until 2020, allows employers to post job openings directly to the site, can send notifications for when a position opens and features to create a profile. The site offers opportunities for both the entry-level job seeker or the corporate manager with years of experience.
Local talent will currently find a list of 29 employers ranging from a wide variety of industries such as digital media and entertainment, advanced manufacturing and biotechnology. Some company names already on the list include Bioness Inc., FivePoint, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Hyatt Regency Valencia, LBW Insurance & Finance Service Inc., Poole & Shaffery, LLP, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia Acura.
While the job board lists openings majority based in the SCV, there are some options listed in Burbank, Simi Valley and other areas of Los Angeles County.
While it’s a fairly new resource, Schroeder said the SCVEDC is working to bring in other companies from other industries to the list.
