Vikings marching band to host 8th annual field show
Tournament begins at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the VHS football stadium
The Valencia High School Marching Band plans to once again invite more than 1,000 performers to the campus to compete at the eighth annual Pride of Vikings Field Show Tournament.
The Nov. 7 event, according to organizers, is inviting 18 local and Southern California bands to show off their color guard pageantry and marching band competition sets, all in the hopes of being crowned tournament champion.
Valencia High School’s band is also set to perform its program titled “Cosmic Illuminations.” According to VHS officials, the set explores ideas of space exploration through the use of musical and visual techniques.
“The universe is so vast and full of wonder,” said Kevin Flores, director of instrumental music for the VHS Band and Color Guard. “We want to use our show to aesthetically demonstrate the excitement, greatness, beauty and danger of our infinite universe.”
Flores added, “I am so proud of each and every one of these students who have worked tirelessly and have really stretched their limits to perform in excellence.”
At the event, food, drinks and raffle tickets will be offered throughout the day by the VHS Band and Flag Boosters.
“All proceeds from the tournament go towards the ongoing fundraising efforts of our music program,” said Channon Morris, president of the VHS booster club.
The tournament starts at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Valencia High School football stadium located at 27801 N. Dickason Drive. The tournament will be followed by a performance from the Pasadena City College Lancer Marching Band and Color Guard at 9:30 p.m., according to officials.
The price of admission is $10 and general parking is free.
