Church of Nazarene hosts Fall Festival

Though Halloween had passed, community members and parishioners still donned their costumes for Newhall Church of the Nazarene’s annual Fall Fest on a recent Sunday.
The church had to reschedule the event due to the wind and power outages, but still received a great turnout, according to organizers.
“We just moved here from Washington, and I’ve never seen so many churches do events like this,” said Bobbi McMasters, family life and connections pastor. “I think it just shows that Santa Clarita does come together and do things as a community.”
“It’s important to us because we get to meet new people from the community,” added Josh Johnson, senior pastor.
The event began as a simple trunk-or-treat, but has grown into a festival of its own, complete with games, food and even a few classic cars on display.
“They look forward to it every year, and there’s even one car that hands out full-size candy,” McMasters added.
Many volunteered to decorate their cars for the trunk-or-treat, including Roycelynne Reble, whose truck was dressed as Mater from “Cars.”
“We’ve got a lot of compliments on it so far,” Reble said. “This is the first time I put my car in because I used to (participate) myself, and I think we’re gonna keep doing it now.”
Though Reble came up with the idea, her mother, Stephanie Lothert, made it come to life.
“We’ve been going to this church since she was born,” Lothert said, adding that this event is a family favorite that they always try to attend. “It’s a safe place for the kids to come and have fun with their families, plus it’s great food and fellowship.”
