A look at local parishes’ plans for Easter worship

- By Raychel Stewart Signal Staff Writer

The Santa Clarita Valley community kicked off Lent last month with the observance of Ash Wednesday, and will continue the six-week celebration with Palm Sunday, March 28 and Good Friday, April 2 leading up to Easter.

Lent is a time to reconnect with spirituality by partaking in fasting, sacrifice and prayer, said Bob Seigler, deacon at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church. The 40-day period signifies the time Jesus Christ fasted in the desert.

“It’s a different time compared to the rest of the year,” Seigler said. “It’s a time of self-sacrifice, and we ask those who participate that whatever they decide to do during this time will benefit others.”

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and ends a few days before Easter. During this time, special days such as Palm Sunday and Good Friday are acknowledged, which tie into the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Churches across the SCV will be hosting special services during these days, and concluding Lent with Easter services and celebrations. Among them are:
