The Signal

Frank Maurice Quinn

1938 - 2021

-

Frank Maurice Quinn died peacefully on the morning of Sunday November 7, 2021. He was born in Newhall California on May 9, 1938 on his family’s ranch in Soledad Canyon. He was the son of Ruth and Tom Connors. The Connors were pioneers of the growing community of Newhall in the 1930s and Frank quickly made a lasting mark on the developing town.

Frank attended Sulphur Springs elementary school and eventually continued to William S. Hart High School for his studies. While he attended Hart he received his first job working at the Solemint Store at night. When he was in the 9th grade his father paid him to drive a semi-truck for his hog ranch. Frank’s job was to pick up scraps from Frank Collins’ chicken ranch and bring it to the hog ranch for feeding. This is when Frank realized that he wanted to pursue trucking as a career. He drove trucks for some of the familiar businesses in the community including Pacific Milling, Newhall Refinery, and Thatcher Glass. He loved to drive and was always asked to drive the Signal’s Fourth of July parade float for the Trueblood family. Frank worked many jobs throughout his life in addition to trucking. In 1958 he decided to become a local sheriff in the community and would pick up work as a bartender at some of the local establishments including the Saugus Café and Big Oaks Lodge for secondary income but his first choice was always trucking. After his official retirement he worked part time at his family’s business, Evans & Son, Inc where he was beloved by everyone who worked there. Everyone at Evans & Son enjoyed talking to Frank and listening to his many stories about the history of the town and how much he loved growing up in Newhall.

To quote Frank’s own words from his journal regarding his children, “My kids have always been the most important thing in my life and I thank God I have them. I consider myself to be a very lucky man”.

He loved his family and friends first and they knew he could be counted on to take care of whatever they needed no matter the circumstance. He was a grandfather and great grandfather to five grandchildren, and uncle Frank to several nieces and nephews. He additionally helped raise his two step children, April and Justin who he loved dearly and remained close with.

The best way to describe Frank is that of a divine spark and although we are devastated to lose him, we are determined to steward the light he passed on to us moving forward. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children Julia Quinn (Scott Evans) and Scott Quinn as well as his brother Tom Quinn and nephew Phil Quinn. He is preceded in death by his daughter Kerry Quinn.

A memorial service for Frank will be held at Evans & Son, Inc on Friday December 10, 2021 at 1:00pm
