‘Southern Fried Funeral’ at CTG

Canyon Theatre Guild, 24242 Main St., Newhall The fun family comedy Southern Fried Funeral runs every weekend until its scheduled closing on Oct. 30. Funerals bring out the worst, the best, and the funniest in people, and the Frye family is no exception. It’s a big-hearted comedy about family — Southern-style. Grace Theatre Presents, ‘Fools’

Grace Baptist Church’s theater company, Grace Theatre, is scheduled to perform Neil Simon’s play, “Fools,” described by the company as a “hilarious tale of a village under an ancient curse of foolishnes­s and the eager new teacher who falls under the charming spell of his student and her quaint little town.” Tickets $15 for adults, and $10 for students 18 years and under, and are available at www.gracebapti­st. org/theatre.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Santa Clarita Valley

Valencia High Medical Science Academy Free Heart Screenings

The Valencia High School Medical Science Academy has once again partnered with the Saving Hearts Foundation to host a free heart screening event for all youth ages 12-24. Saving Hearts Foundation is on a mission to prevent sudden cardiac arrest through awareness, education and action. The screening includes an ECG, and if necessary, an echocardio­gram interprete­d by a physician with referral to a cardiologi­st if needed. The screening is painless and takes approximat­ely 20 minutes. Students can sign up for a free heart screening at hipaa.jotform.com/2225669852­84167. Space is limited. Metavivors Fundraiser Gala

Metavivor is dedicated to the specific fight of women and men living with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. At the time of Metavivor’s founding, no organizati­on was dedicated to funding research for the disease and no patient groups were speaking out about the dearth of stage 4 cancer research. While more and more people have taken up the cry for more stage 4 research, Metavivor remains the sole U.S. organizati­on dedicated to awarding annual stage 4 breast cancer research. Santa Clarita Elks’ Veterans, First Responders Appreciati­on Day

Community members are invited to join in expressing gratitude for veterans and first responders at the free Veterans and First Responders Appreciati­on Day, sponsored by the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge 2379 and Los Angeles County Chapter, Marines & Corpsmen Associatio­n. The event offers an opportunit­y to visit, talk to, and say thanks in person to active-duty soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, firefighte­rs, deputy sheriffs, police officers and emergency medical technician­s and paramedics. More surprises and special guests include the United States Marine Corps Mounted Guard. Food and drinks, including kettle corn, shave ice and soft drinks; adult libations will also be available for a nominal fee.
