The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is pleased to announce that Ann Marie HayesHawkinson was elected to the Board of Directors on Monday, May 17, and the recent hire of Nan Parks, who has joined the team as Director of Marketing.

Ann Marie HayesHawkinson is married to Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson, president of Kutztown University, and became involved with the Animal Rescue League because she believes that all animals deserve a loving home. Ann Marie holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in paint- ing and a master’s degree in art history from the University of Kansas. She recently converted the main level of President’s House into a gallery to display KU faculty and student work.

Ann Marie and her husband share their home with a three and a half year old Havanese dog named Wynnie. Wynnie is known to attend campus events, where allowed, and leads the way on “Walks with Wynnie,” a university-community initiative.

“We are very happy to have Ann Marie join the Animal Rescue League of Berks County’s Board of Directors,” said Jessica Prutzman, President of the Animal Rescue League Board of Directors. c

The ARL Board of Directors also includes Boyd Wagner, BVMS, Vice President; Richard Hoffmann, Treasurer; Jennifer Bednez, Secretary; Sandy Hummel, PHR; Andi Kurzweg; Suzy Lysczek; Shelly Nowotarski; Nicole Plank, Esquire; Sheriff Erick Weak- necht; and Brad Weisman.

Nan Parks, new Director of Marketing, will handle all aspects of marketing for the ARL including social media, communications and event promotion.

“The ARL is very fortunate to have Nan join our team,” said Executive Director of the Animal Rescue League, Liz McCauley. “She brings a great deal of nonprofit marketing and fun- draising experience to the position and is passionate about telling the ARL story to the public.”

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is the only open admission shelter in Berks County accepting more than 6,500 animals annually. The shelter runs at maximum capacity throughout the year, providing adoption programs, spay/neuter clinics, community outreach, education, animal welfare investigation and more. The ARL’s mission is to impact all aspects of humane treatments of animals through quality service, accommodation and education of pet owners and the community.

“AnnMarie will be a wonderful asset with her fundraising experience and passion to provide care and find homes for the animals of Berks County. The ARL is fortunate to have AnnMarie as part of our organization.”
