JROTC cadets assist veterans
On Friday, June 3, the JROTC cadets at Daniel Boone High School teamed up with Keystone Villa of Douglassville to assist WWII and Korean War veteran residents at the WWII Air Show at Reading Airport and the Mid Atlantic Air Museum.
The residents included veterans who had served under historic names like General George Patton during the campaign in Germany.
Cadets paired up with residents and assisted them, whether by walking with them or by pushing their wheelchairs around the airport grounds to all the airplanes, artillery and other sights that they
wanted to see.
The effort has been dubbed “The Wheelchair Brigade.”

Veteran residents from Keystone Villa who were involved include James McNertney, 6th Armored Infantry, served under General Patton; Ed McGeehan, WWII veteran; Archie Handy, 100th Infantry in Germany in WWII; Karl Bennicoff, USAF veteran from 1946-1949 in Alaska; Ed Quinter, U.S. Marines during WWII; Donald Keefe, Armed Security in Korea; and Davis Haldeman, USAF.
