Police investigat­e ‘Batman’ incident

Amity police are investigat­ing a bizarre incident involving several bar patrons, including a man dressed in a cape and Batman T-shirt.

Police were called to the first block of Old Swede Road near the Douglassvi­lle Hotel Restaurant and Bar at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19. A witness told police that a 30-year-old man had assaulted another customer. The witness described the man as a stocky white male about 5 feet 10 inches tall wearing a Batman shirt and cape. After an altercatio­n outside the bar, the man wearing the Batman outfit ran into nearby woods, chased by two other men, according to Amity Police Chief Andrew Kensey.

A shot was fired in the direction of the man in the Batman outfit but no one was injured, according to police.

Douglass Township Constable Joshua Stouch was travelling on Route 422 near Fisher

Chiropract­ic in route to a requested transport when he heard the gunshot and stopped to investigat­e. Stouch was approached by witnesses who advised him two men were chasing another man in a wooded area behind the bar. Stouch checked the area and saw two men walk out of the woods. The men identified themselves and a handgun was located on one of the men. Both men were placed in handcuffs and detained until police could arrive, ac- cording to a Facebook post by the Douglass Township Constable Office.

The victim was located by Amity Township Police after he emerged from the woods. He was treated for injuries at the scene but refused to go to the hospital, according to police.

All three men were transferre­d to the custody of Amity Township Police for investigat­ion, and charges are pending following the result of the investigat­ion.

Amity Township Police, Douglass (Berks) Police Department and Exeter Township Police responded to the incident.
