‘GOLD’ brings new learning opportunity for students
Information session scheduled for Aug. 4 at the Education Center
“Governor Mifflin GOLD” will soon debut as a new, blended learning opportunity for students.
The school district is currently accepting enrollments for their new blended learning program, Governor Mifflin GOLD. As the “gold standard in learning,” this program is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade who reside in the Governor Miff lin School District. Governor Mifflin GOLD is tuition-free and provides the flexibility of online learning with a comprehensive list of benefits only a public school district can offer.
Students enrolled in the program are exposed to a rigorous
curriculum and are supported by highly- qualified, Pennsylvania-certified teachers who provide individualized support to address each student’s unique needs and interests. As an added value, students enrolled in the program can participate in extracurricu- lar activities, such as clubs, after-school and summer programs, Governor Mifflin’s award-winning music program, and championship athletic teams.
GOLD students will also be able to have on-site access to the district’s tutoring, special education, and guidance office services, and will graduate with a Governor Miff lin School District diploma.
“Governor Mifflin GOLD provides the opportunities of an online, global learning environment with the rigorous standards and cocurricular and social opportunities of our district and local community,” explained Kristine Rosenberger, Ed.D., Governor Mifflin Director of Teach- ing and Learning and Governor Mifflin GOLD coordinator.
Dr. Rosenberger is leading the new initiative and will serve as the district liaison for families enrolled in the GOLD program.
“Even though the families who choose GOLD will be Governor Mifflin students, we want to make sure that, in addition to having an individualized plan, they feel that connection to our district,” said Rosenberger. “As a staff, we are dedicated to including these students in the opportunities our district provides so that they have a true blended learning experience.”
The launch of Governor Mifflin GOLD for the 2016- 2017 school year will focus primarily on students currently enrolled in online programs.
District administrators plan to phase in broader blended learning opportunities for all students, with the goal of providing more flexible scheduling and broader course offerings throughout the district.
“As a local school district, we can provide a quality blended learning experience for significantly less cost to the community, while offering more in the way of curriculum, activities, and services to the students who are currently choosing an out-of-district online program,” said Steve Gerhard, Ed.D.,
