AMITY>> ABirdsboro woman was ejected from behind the wheel of her car after a two-vehicle crash that closed a stretch of Route 422 in Berks County.

The accident happened at 10:08 a.m. Monday at Route 422 West and North Monocacy Creek Road in Amity Township, police confirmed. The woman was rushed to the hospital with a head injury. Three others suffered minor injuries but did not need to go to the hospital.

Traveling westbound on Route 422, Patricia Nowaczynski, 58, of Birdsboro, struck another vehicle as her pickup truck went through a red light at North Monocacy Creek Road, according to Amity police.

The impact caused the pickup truck to roll at least three times, and Nowaczynski was ejected from the vehicle, police said. She was rushed to the Reading Hospital Trauma Center for treatment of a head injury, police said. The three people in the other vehicle were treated at the scene, but they did not need to go to the hospital, police confirmed.

The westbound lanes of Route 422 were closed at Old Airport Road for about 45 minutes while police investigated the accident and crews cleaned up the wreckage. The eastbound lanes of Route 422 remained open, but travel past the scene was slowed. Traffic resumed as normal at about 11:02 a.m.

Police say no charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
