The Exeter Eagles are picking up where they left off.

The defending Berks League Section 1 champions made it two in a row on Sept. 9 with a convincing 35-7 victory over Hempfield, at Landisville, in a non-league contest. The Eagles seized control with a 19-point third quar- ter output, which powered a 16-0 halftime advantage to 35-7 and the final margin.

Brandon Unterkoelfer did damage as much with his legs as his arm. The Eagles’ quarterback ran for 106 yards on 13 carries and found the end zone twice. He was just 5 of 12 passing for 75 yards, but two of those completions went for touchdowns.

Nick Sarangoulis was an effec- tive backfield playmate, rushing for 153 yards on 16 carries, a 9.6 yards-per-carry average. Exeter piled up 493 yards of offense to Hempfield’s 151.

Exeter’s defense harassed Hempfield QB David Martin-Robinson into a miserable evening. Martin-Robinson completed just 2 of 14 passes for 13 yards and was picked off twice.

Exeter parlayed a field goal and a 46-yard scoring strike from Unterkoefler to Gabe Schappell for a 10-0 lead in the second quarter. Schappell was last season’s opening day starter for Eagles at quarterback before an injury handed the job to Unterkoefler.

The Eagles pushed it to 16-0 before the half on a second TD pass, a 7-yard strike to Matt Feeney. Then Unterkoefler ripped off runs of 47 and 35 yards after the break to give the Eagles a prohibitive lead.

Exeter travels to Spring-Ford Friday night to face the Rams, before opening league play the following week against Governor Mifflin.

Elsewhere in Week 2:

GOVERNOR MIFFLIN 17, COCALICO

13 >> The Mustangs (1-1) needed a late rally to clear the Eagles, at Shillington. Governor Mifflin got a 3-yard touchdown run from Elijah Mitchell near the end of the third quarter for a 14-13 lead. A 35-yard field goal from Ben Myers close the scoring. Isaac Ruoss had 191 yards rushing on 30 carries with one score for the Mustangs.

RED LION 42, DANIEL BOONE

7 >> The Blazers (0-2) were overwhelmed by the visiting Lions in a non-league clash. Red Lion scored five first half touchdowns en route to a 35-0 lead at the break; Dylan Gurreri rushed for 103 yards and two scores. Boone’s only score came late, a 30-yard TD reception by Ryan Okuniewski.

KENNETT 30, TWIN VALLEY

15 >> Talk to anyone associated with the Kennett football team, and they’ll tell you the Blue Demons have come a long way over the past few seasons.

A lot of Myles, judging by the last two weeks.

Senior back Myles Robin- son continued his big-play propensity Friday night, accounting for all four touchdowns and racking up 211 all-purpose yards to lead visiting Kennett to a 3015 non-league victory over Twin Valley.

Quarterback Jake Dilcher threw for 243 yards and two TDs, with 6-3, 230-pound Kerry Tomasetti notching six grabs – half of them for clutch third-down conversions – as the Blue Demons (2-1) won their second straight game since a 35-7 loss to Avon Grove in their opener.

Perhaps the biggest key for coach Doug Langley’s squad, however, was a resurgent defense that forced five turnovers – including two interceptions by Mitch Kosara.

“Defenses really drive a team,” Langley said. “Last week (a 27-14 win over Chichester), we really showed up and played well defensively, and we played really well defensively today. I think that’s really what will drive us.”

Twin Valley (1-1), thanks to Mason Bennett’s long kickoff return, got on the board on a 19-yard TD pass from Gardner to Zach Schaffer wiht 10:46 left in the third. Then, after Jim Tuley connected on a 23yard field goal for the Demons, the Raiders got within 23-15 when Bennett scampered for a 15-yard score on the first play of the fourth quarter and Gardner hit Josh Mable for the conversion pass.

But Kennett would not be denied, answering with a six-play drive culminating in Robinson’s 8-yard TD run that provided the final margin.

Bennett ran for 73 yards and Schaffer and Darren Sipf combined for 11 receptions for 144 yards for the Raiders, who had won five straight dating back to last year and were looking for their first 2- 0 start since opening 3-0 in 2009.

Twin Valley inducted former professional baseball players Tom Patton, Joe Casey and Nick Mattioni into its sports Hall of Fame at halftime.

LITTLESTOWN58, HAMBURG 7 >> The host Bolts piled up 412 yards of offense to blow out the Hawks (2-1). Littlestown scored on its first five drives and led 51-0 at halftime. Wesley Storey had 119 yards rushing on seven carries, with backfield mate Andrew Matthews rolling up 105 on just three with two TDs. LEHIGHTON 33, SCHUYLKILL

VALLEY 14 >> The Panthers surrendered 549 yards of total offense to the visitors in falling to 0-3. Though the game with tied 14 after the first quarter, Lehighton took control after the break, scoring the game’s final 19 points. Mike Mayernick had three scores on 177 yards rushing for Lehighton. Nathan Braucher ran for 102 yards on nine totes and one TD for the Panthers.

KUTZTOWN31, SHENANDOAH

VALLEY 6 >> The last time it happened, Logan Bachman was in elementary school.

No matter where Bachman or any of his Kutztown football teammates were six years ago when the Cougars last won a game, they were all together last Friday, Sept. 9, to finally leave a Cougar football game smiling achman, a sophomore running back, rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns as Kutztown handled Shenandoah Valley, 316, on its home field to end a 41-game losing streak that dated back to 2010.

It gave head coach Matt Hoffert his first win.

Bachman and quarterback Brayden Eck led the way. Eck went 4-for-10 passes for 108 yards and one TD. He also ran for 28 yards and a touchdown.

Wide receiver Nolan Prevoznik finished with three receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Also on the ground, Caleb Riegel chipped in with six rushes for 42 yards in the winning effort.

Fleetwood, a Week Zero participant, was idle. The Tigers (1-1) host Elco on Friday.
