If you live in Oley, you soon won’t have to go far to pick up a six-pack of beer.

The Weis Market in 61 King’s Plaza in Oley was recently granted permission to transfer a liquor license from a the El Toluca Restaurant at 500 North Ninth Street in Reading.

The Oley supervisors voted 2- 0 on Sept. 21 to approve the transfer. Supervisor Chairman Jeffrey Spatz was absent from the meeting.

According to Weis Markets public relations direc- tor Dennis Curtin, the company will bear any costs associated with the transfer and will conduct all procedures required by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. The PCLB must give final approval before the cafe opens sometime in 2017.

Along with obtaining the liquor license, the market plans to open a cafe where people can eat and drink beer. Eventually, Curtin says, the market will stock wine as well.

The cafe will be located at the front of the store in the area the pharmacy currently occupies. The pharmacy will be relocated in- side the store.

The maximum amount of beer that can be purchased will be two sixpacks, and only two drinks may be consumed if sitting at the cafe.

The cafe will have a separate entrance and will accommodate approximately 30 customers. Company policy dictates that all customers be carded, and all beer purchases will be made at a separate cash register located in the cafe.

Weis Markets is located in Sunbury and operates 171 stores. The Oley store will be the 50th to have a beer cafe, Curtin said.
