McKay making most of Slippery Rock finale

Megan McKay had a breakout season with the Slippery Rock field hockey team last year and the 5-foot-10 senior forward is on her way to matching or bettering her junior performanc­e this season.

McKay (Governor Mifflin) has seven goals and two assists for 16 points.

“Megan has been a tremendous leader on and off the field,” coach Julie Swiney said. “Her dedication to fitness and training is an inspiratio­n to her teammates and has allowed her to have continued success in her senior season. She is a determined player who is always working to improve herself and her teammates.”

McKay had two goals in a 4-2 loss to West Chester on Sept. 24 and a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory over Bellarmine on Sept. 17. She had the second goal in a 2-0 victory over Mansfield on Oct. 4 to give The Rock a 4-7 overall record and a 1-3 record in the PSAC.

As a freshman and sophomore, McKay had six goals and five assists in 37 games. Last season, she set single season school records with 16 goals and 38 points. She holds the career point record with 71.

GABRIELLA JOHNSON (GOVERNOR MIFFLIN) >>

The 5-foot- 9 freshman outside hitter has played in 10 matches and 30 sets for the Shippensbu­rg women’s volleyball team which is 13-3 overall and 2-2 in PSAC play after a 3-2 loss to Edinboro on Oct. 1. Johnson had eight kills and 14 digs in that game. She also had a college career-high 15 kills and 13 digs in a 3-2 loss to Seton Hill on Sept. 3. Johnson has 68 digs, 57 kills, nine blocks, four service aces and four assists on the season.

SAM FEEHRER (EXETER TOWNSHIP) >>

The junior has four assists for the Elizabetht­own men’s soccer team and they’ve come in the most recent games. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defender had two assists in a 2-1 victory over Scranton on Oct. 1 and two assists in a 3-0 triumph over Moravian on Oct. 5. Both were Landmark Conference games to lift the Blue Jays to 7-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in league play.

EVAN LYSCZEK (EXETER TOWNSHIP) >>

The 5-foot-9, 221-pound junior is seeing action at fullback for the Lebanon Valley football team. He has carried the ball nine times for 37 yards, a 4.1 per carry average. He played five games on special teams as a sophomore. The Dutchmen are 1- 4 overall and 1-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference after a 48-0 loss to Delaware Valley on Oct. 1 in Annville.

COURTNEY VIDOVICH (DANIEL BOONE) >>

The defensive specialist is having a solid season with the Rochester women’s volleyball team. The 5-foot-8 sophomore has played in all 19 matches and 63 sets for the Yellow Jackets, who are 13-6 overall and 2-1 in the University Athletic Associatio­n after a 3-1 victory over New York University last Sunday. The 5-foot-10 sophomore has 102 digs and 35 service aces.

ERIN GILLINGHAM (OLEY VALLEY) >>

The 5-foot-2 senior midfielder has played in all 11 games with seven starts for the No. 4-ranked Syracuse field hockey team. She’s helped the Orange limited foes to 15 goals with two shutouts. Syracuse defeated Bucknell 4-3 in a non-league game on Oct. 2 to go 10-1 overall. The Orange is 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

LAMAR SAXON (BOYERTOWN) >>

The junior led the Ursinus men’s golf team at the Muhlenberg Invitation­al last Monday at the Lehigh Country Club in Allentown. He shot a 78 to finish tied for 26 in a field of 98 golfers. The Bears finished tied for 10th in the 20 team field. Saxon opened the season with a 75 at the Swarthmore-Neumann Invita- tional on Sept. 25 and had a 78 at the Ursinus Open on Sept. 27.

COURTNEY BLACK (BOYERTOWN) >>

The 5-foot-7 sophomore has two goals and two assists for the Clarkson women’s soccer team. She scored goals in back-toback games – 8-1 over Johnson State on Sept.10 and 7-0 over Green Mountain on Sept. 11. Black played in all 17 games and led the Golden Knights in minutes played (1492) and tallied three goals as a freshman. Clarkson is 4-7 overall and 0-3 in Liberty League play after a 2-0 loss to Plattsburg­h on Tuesday in Plattsburg­h, N.Y.

ZOE GALVIN (GOVERNOR MIFFLIN) >>

The freshman midfielder has started all 11 games for the Eastern women’s soccer team, the Eagles 6-6 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Freedom Conference after a 2-0 loss Rowan in a non-league game on Oct. 5. Galvin picked up her first collegiate point when she had an assist in a 6-0 victory over Rosemont on Sept. 7.

AARON KULIG (BOYER TOWN) >>

The junior has played in nine games with two starts for the Juniata men’s soccer team which is 3-9 overall and 1-2 in the Landmark Conference after a 3-0 loss to Susquehann­a on Oct. 5. He had a goal in a 4-2 loss to Mount Aloysius and assists the first goal in a 3-1 victory over Goucher on Sept. 4 and a 3-2 triumph over Penn State Altoona on Sept. 29.

TAYLOR BOYER (TULPEHOCKE­N) >>

The 5-foot- 6 sophomore has scored two goals for the Delaware Valley women’s soccer team. She had the only goal in a 1- 0 victory over Immaculata and the first goal in a 2-1 victory over GwyneddMer­cy. Freshman Calla Gibson (Twin Valley) has started all 11 games on de- fense while sophomore Jennifer Wood (Oley Valley) has played in 10 games with five starts and has picked up an assist.

MORGAN JARDINE (SCHUYLKILL VALLEY) >>

The freshman has made 10 starts for the Penn StateBerks women’s soccer team which is 7-2-1 overall and 6-0-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference after a 2-0 victory over Lancaster Bible in a league game on Sept.30.Jardine picked up a goal in a 13-0 victory over Cobleskill on Sept. 25 and an assist in the 10- 0 triumph over Cazenovia on Sept. 17.

JENNA SIEVERT (FLEETWOOD)>>

The 5-foot-10 freshman outside hitter/middle hitter has played I 20 matches and 61 sets for the DeSales women’s volleyball team which is 12-8 overall and 3-1 in MAC Freedom play after a 3-0 league victory over Misericord­ia on Oct. 4. Sievert has 90 kills, 29 digs and 20 blocks for the Bulldogs.

NICK VOLK (KUTZTOWN) >>

The sophomore is 3- 0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles thus far this fall for the Penn State- Berks men’s tennis team. He was named North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week on Sept. 24. Freshman Diego Olazacasti (Exeter) was named NAC Player of the Week on Oct. 1. He’s 2-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles for the Nittany Lions.

KAYLA MCCLURE (TWIN VALLEY) >>

The sophomore has six defensive saves for the Central Michigan field hockey team. That ties her for second in NCAA Division I. The defender has started all 11 games for the Chippewas, who are 1-10 overall and 0-3 in the MidAmerica­n Conference. She started all 17 games on defense for the team last year as a freshman.
