Oct. 15 Health screening: The Amity Township Lions are sponsoring a community health screen from 7to 9:30a.m. on Oct. 15at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 548Old Swede Road in Douglassville. The cost is $55. The health screen consists of blood tests and a self-scoring health lifestyle evaluation. Blood testing includes Complete Blood Count, HDL ( good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease, gout and anemia. Call 1-800-776-6342Monday through Friday from 8a.m. to 2:30p.m. to pre-register. Oct.15-Nov.5 Berks County Genealogical Society: is offering a series of four classes for the beginning genealogist. Classes will meet in the society’s library, Room 413 at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201Washington St., Reading, PA 19601. Dates are Saturday, Oct. 15, 22, 29, and Nov. 5from 2-4 p.m. Cost: $35per person, includes use of the library on class days Students must preregister by calling the library any day between noon and 4at (484) 509-4806. Garden Club: Pottstown Area Garden Club welcomes amateurs interested in all aspects of gardening. Meetings are held the first Friday of every month at St. James Lutheran Church, 1101E. Pagoda Writers: The Pagoda Writers group gets together from 1to 3p.m. the first Saturday of every month on the second floor of the Pagoda, 98Duryea Dr., Reading. Stitching Circle: The Mifflin Community Library’s Evening Stitching Circle meets every Monday from 6:30-8p.m., and the Afternoon Stitching Circle meets every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. New members are always welcome and should bring their own materials. There are currently between 12-15members who sew, knit and crochet. The group works on personal projects as well as service projects to benefit the community. Come join in loads of fun & stitching! Writers group: Mifflin Writers Group continues to meet the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. Mifflin Writers Group is composed of writers of all genres and levels of experience. Their purpose is to motivate, inspire, instruct, inform, share and critique each other in their writing efforts in a free flowing and relaxed atmosphere. Come get writing! Most programs encourage pre-registration and take place downstairs at the Mifflin Community Library unless otherwise noted.
