Albright College receives $100,000 grant from Hearst Foundation
Albright College has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Hearst Foundation, Inc., to provide scholarships for students conducting scientific research.
The Hearst scholarships will enable traditionally underrepresented students majoring in the sciences to conduct research projects through the Albright Creative Research Experience (ACRE) program.
ACRE is a multi- disciplinary program that affords Albright students the opportunity to conduct re- search or pursue creative endeavors during the summer break or three-week January Interim. Students work one-on-one with faculty advisors.
The Hearst f unding will be used for student stipends, supplies, room and board, and travel expenses for students to pres- ent their research at conferences in their fields. As part of their work, ACRE students present their research on campus, and often share their findings at regional or national conferences or use it as a springboard for further study.
Albright previously re- ceived an $80,000 grant from the Hearst Foundation in 2012 to support ACRE research.
“We are delighted that the Hearst Foundation has once again selected Albright for support of our undergraduate research program,” said Kim Justeson, director of experien- tial learning. “The funding will allow traditionally underrepresented students in the sciences to pursue research with faculty mentors.”
The Hearst Foundations provide funding for nonprofit organizations in the fields of culture, education, health and social services.
