Evening to honor veterans, military, police

Rival Daniel Boone, Exeter school districts partner for special event

In commemorat­ion of Veterans Day, rival school districts Daniel Boone and Exeter Township will join forces to honor their communitie­s’ veterans, military (active, reserve, and guard), and local police forces in recognitio­n of these organizati­ons’ commitment to and dedication to protecting and serving the local community, the state of Pennsylvan­ia, and the nation as a whole.

The celebratio­n will take place on Friday, Nov. 4. The evening will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a convoy from the Exeter High School to the Daniel Boone High School. This convoy will consist of PA Army National Guard vehicles, US Army vehicles, and local police vehicles which will be escorted by local American Legion Post’s Motorcycle Rider’s Clubs honoring these military and police personnel. Upon their arrival at Daniel Boone, these vehicles will be set up for commu- nity members to view offering an opportunit­y to interact with military and police profession­als.

Starting at 6 p.m., community activities will transfer to the stadium beginning with Daniel Boone’s Senior Recognitio­n Night. At 6:20 p.m. the Exeter Eagle Marching Band will dazzle the crowd with their halftime show setting a high musical standard for the evening. Following the Eagles’ performanc­e, the Daniel Boone and Exeter Choirs will join voices with the performanc­e of the National Anthem.

As a further demonstrat­ion of cross community unity, the two bands will combine for the halftime show providing their rendition of America the Beautiful and the Armed Forces Medley.

The halftime show will tentativel­y include Color Guards from neighborin­g school districts’ Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Units, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, local Boy and Girl Scout Troops, and local police department­s. The evening will round out with the Marching Blazers capping off the musical entertainm­ent by performing their halftime show immediatel­y following the game.

This event is cosponsore­d by the Daniel Boone JROTC, the Daniel Boone and Exeter Athletic Department­s, the Daniel Boone Sports Boosters, the Pennsylvan­ia Army National Guard, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Keystone Villa.

The event will be held during Daniel Boone’s last home game on Friday, Nov. 4. Pregame community events will start at 5 p.m. Senior Night activities will begin at 6:25 PM, and the game will start at 7 p.m. Veterans wearing an item of clothing representi­ng the branch in which they served, military personnel in uniform, and police in uniform will receive free admission to this game.
