Governor Miff lin moved to within one victory of winning Berks League Section 1 outright on Friday with a 56-6 dismantling of new section foe Fleetwood.

The Mustangs (8-1, 5-0) scored on all six of their first-half possessions for a commanding 42-0 halftime lead on the road. Isaac Ruoss led the way with a pair of rushing touchdowns on the way to a 90-yard night on the ground. He later scored a third time before calling it a night.

Mifflin can win Section 1 outright – reestablishing the dominance interrupted by Exeter a year ago – by beating Conrad Weiser at home Friday night to close the regular season.

Mifflin rolled up 404 total yards, with 246 of that in the rushing column. Kamron Wolfe only attempted two passes but completed both for a whopping 105 yards. Ajay Sczepkowski was on the receiving end of both, for his only two receptions of the game.

Mifflin opened the scoring on a 15-yard touchdown run by Donovan hardy before Ruoss chipped in with his first two to make 21-0 before the first quarter was out. The Mustangs piled it on in the second stanza, with Sczepkowski scoring a 5-yard run, Tyshaun Weaver hauling in a 35-yard strike from Austin Baker, and Cameron Sanchez finding the end zone on a 1-yard plunge.

Fleetwood (1-8, 0-6) wrapped a trying first season in the section by being held to 64 passing yards and 200 overall. Christian Romero scored the Tigers’ only TD late, on a 6-yard pass from Trevor Koenig. The Tigers close out the campaign on Friday against former section foe Kutztown.

Elsewhere in Week 9:

EXETER 40, READING 0 >> The host Eagles (7-2, 4-1 Section 1) posted their second shutout in three weeks with a takedown of the Red Knights (4-5, 2-3). Gabe Schappell scored three touchdowns, two on passes from quarterback Brandon Unterkoefler, in building a 20-0 halftime lead and beyond. Unterkoefler led all in rushing, from under center, with 129 yards on 11 carries. Nick Sarangoulis added 100 on 15 with one score. Exeter’s defense held Reading to five first downs.

CONRAD WEISER 42, DANIEL BOONE 13 >> The Blazers (3-6, 2-3) were pummeled in Robesonia to the tune of 490 total yards surrendered on 22 first downs as the Scouts built a 28-6 halftime lead. Weiser’s Marcus Dawkins scored on touchdown runs of 13, 24 and 67 yards en route to a 144-on10-totes showing. Boone’s Ryan Okuniewski caught six balls for 165 yards – a 27.5 yards-per-reception average – and scored two

touchdowns.

WYOMISSING 45, HAMBURG 0>> The host Spartans were not caught looking past the Hawks, with their Section 2 showdown with Berks Catholic looming next week. Wyo (7-2, 4- 0 Section 2) scored 38 of its 45 points before the break, with Brandon Westwood and Jordan Caraballo each clocking a pair of touchdowns. Hamburg (5-4, 1-3) was held to zero passing yards and 58 overall.

TWINVALLEY8, SCHUYLKILL VALLEY 7 >> Zach Gardner’s 2-point conversion pass in the fourth quarter to David Sabulsky provided the margin of victory for the Raiders. The successful conversion came after Jesse Funk pulled in a 7-yard scoring strike from Gardner. Schuylkill Valley (1-8, 1-3) scored its only touchdown on a 5-yard run by Garrett Polityka in the third quarter. He had 93 yards on 23 carries to lead the Panthers. Sabulsky went for 90 on 18 to pace the Raiders.

BERKS CATHOLIC 53, KUTZTOWN 14 >> BC wasn’t looking forward either, when it took down the Cougars convincingly. All eight Saints’ touchdowns were scored by different players, as BC outgained Kutztown 35594. The loss meant an eight consecutive winless campaign in the section for host Kutztown (3- 6, 0-5), despite a non-conference three-game winning streak in September. Logan Bachman and Nolan Prevoznik had late scores for the Cougars.
