BIRDSBORO >> Borough council is cutting its monthly meeting schedule in half.

Starting in January, the council will meet just once every month instead of its current twice-monthly schedule.

“One thing I noticed is the more meetings you have, the less productive you are,” said Councilman Peter Uhniat.

The vote to reduce the meetings passed by a 4-3 margin.

Not all members agreed for a change. Council Vice President Cindy McGee and council members Robert Myers and Neil McCauley voted no.

“One meeting a month is inadequate considering the number of important issues that arise during the course of a month — some of which may not be foreseen,” said Myers.

Mayor Joseph Peterson voiced his concern. “I think as a municipality we need to be able to be responsive,” he said.

Council member Richard Happel made the motion to meet only on the third Monday of the month. Happel, Steve Lusky, Peter Uhniat and council President David Blank Sr. voted yes.

In other business, McGee shared with council members regarding the conditions of the pavilion areas. “We strongly felt what the park need is a vision. This is going to be a gateway to our community,” she said. “We are in our developmental phase, and there’s no cost at this time, but it does have to look better.

The potential to generate larger revenue to the park determines on the renovations to the pavilion areas. Lusky suggested the council find out the overall conditions to the area. Brian Boyer, borough engineer, and

President Blank agreed to meet to gather a rough estimate on the cost.

The Eighth Annual Christmas in Birdsboro took place Saturday, Dec. 10. “It is going to be a phenomenal, small town Christmas event,” said McGee, prior to the event.
