Gov. Mifflin comes up clutch

Close wins gives Mustangs title at So. Lehigh Tournament

The Gov. Mifflin boys basketball team won the Southern Lehigh Tip-Off Tournament last week with a pair of clutch performanc­es.

The Mustangs (2-0) defeated District 1’s Harriton, 56-51, in the title game, rallying from a 38-23 halftime deficit.

Gov. Mifflin out-scored Harriton 33-13 in the second half while getting 16 points from Jared Peters and 15 from Rece Harman.

In their tourney opener, Mifflin defeated Dieruff 69-65 in overtime.

Ben Walmer starred with seven points in OT as part of his 14-point night. Peters scored 21 and Isiah Tisdale netted 18.

EXETER>> Exeter split as host of the Exeter Tip-Off Tournament last weekend, downing Conestoga Valley 54-37 in a consolatio­n game Saturday after falling to Ephrata a night earlier.

Against CV, Devon Jackson scored 23 points including 11 a third quarter that gave the Eagles distance after going into halftime up 20-19.

Jackson was named to the all-tournament team.

Exeter fell to Ephrata 4835 Friday, Jackson netting 14 points. Gabe Schappell scored eight for the Eagles while tournament MVP Micah Crowder scored 12 for the Mounts.

HAMBURG, BRANDYWINE HEIGHTS >> The Hawks went 1-1 as hosts of the Hamburg Tip-Off Tournament. Hamburg topped Brandywine Heights 46-41 in a consolatio­n game.

Harold Greenawald’s 12 points led Hamburg, which shot ahead in the third quarter, turning a 16-13 halftime deficit into a 35-28 lead. Corey Evangelist­a netted nine.

Drew Miller was high scorer for Brandywine with 18 points. Alex Flicker added eight.

A night earlier, Hamburg fell to Northern Lehigh, 45-38. Evangelist­a, Tyler Graham and Greenawald each scored nine points in the loss.

The Bullets fell to Annville-Cleona in their opener, 50-33. Noah Hermany scored a teamhigh 10.

SCHUYLKILL VALLEY 64, FLEETWOOD 60 >> Cody Mish’s 22 points led the Panthers over the Tigers in their respective season openers.

Fleetwood was led by 18 points from Nate Mercuri and 14 from Tyler Chavoya.

opened the season 0-2 at the Wilson Area Tip- Off Tournament last weekend. Kutztown narrowly fell to host Wilson, 55-53 in overtime, Friday and lost 65-42 to Pleasant Valley a night later.

Against Wilson, the Warriors 5- 0 run in OT was the difference. Kutztown was led by Brayden Eck (17 points) and Lorencz Baptiste (15).

Baptiste topped Kutztown against PV with eight points.

MUHLENBERG 58, OLEY VALLEY 38 >> The Muhls pulled away in the second half while getting 23 points from Dreyton Kipp in both teams’ opener.

The Lynx were led by Nash Williamson’s 13 points. Jake Kuczawa added 12 points and 11 rebounds for Muhlenberg.
