Man arrested for transporti­ng pound of meth

EARL TWP. >> A Pottstown man has been arrested after police allegedly found him transporti­ng a black backpack containing a pound of methamphet­amine.

Aaron Griffin, 30, of North Franklin Street, has been charged after officers say they followed him to a garage in Earl Township where they found a pound of drugs in the bag.

Police had received informatio­n that Griffin would be using his black Cadillac to transport a pound of methamphet­amine from his home in Pottstown to a location in Earl Township. The State Police Vice Unit observed the vehicle outside Griffin’s home and watched him enter the vehicle.

Police followed Griffin from Pottstown to North Ironstone Drive and watched him and a passenger step out of the vehicle.

At 5:30 p. m., police stopped and detained Griffin and his passenger and a K-9 unit was initiated. No drugs were found inside the vehicle.

An interview with the passenger indicated that immediatel­y upon arriving at the location, Griffin exited the vehicle and walked to the front of a garage. When he returned, he informed the passenger that police were behind them.

Police returned to search the area and found a black backpack containing one pound of methamphet­amine.

Griffin is being charged with manufactur­e, delivery or possession with intent, criminal use of a communicat­ion facility, intent to possess a controlled substance and use or possession of drug parapherna­lia. He was arraigned on Dec. 14 before District Judge Paul J. Hadzick and is scheduled for a preliminar­y hearing on Dec. 28 before District Judge Michael G. Hartman. He was unable to post the set $50,000 cash bail and is being held at Berks County Prison.

The passenger has not been charged.
