The group is for those that are survivors of the sudden unexpected death of their spouse or significan­t other. No registrati­on is required and it is free. Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvan­ia Volunteer Happy Hour: (adults only) will be held Wednesday, Dec. 21at DoubleTree Hotel in Reading (701Penn St., from 6 to 8p.m. Enjoy a free drink and appetizer! Leaders come for some networking and celebratin­g. Bring a friend and if she becomes a volunteer by the 23rd (registers and completes CBCs) you win a $50 GSEP store credit and your friend receives a free volunteer resource kit. To walk away with your $50 credit that day, make sure your friend comes prepared with her CBC paperwork ready to go.

Community Dinner: St Peter United Church of Christ, Route 23, Knauertown will hold a community dinner on Friday, Dec . 30 from 5:30to 7p.m. The planned menu is a play on the Italian feast of the seven fishes (and ham). Garden Club: Pottstown Area Garden Club welcomes amateurs interested in all aspects of gardening. Meetings are held the first Friday of every month at St. James Lutheran Church, 1101E. Birdsboro Rotary: Birdsboro Rotary Club meets 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at the Reading Country Club, 5311 Perkiomen Ave, Reading. Pagoda Writers: The Pagoda Writers group gets together from 1to 3p.m. the first Saturday of every month on the second floor of the Pagoda, 98Duryea Dr., Reading. Stitching Circle: The Mifflin Community Library’s Evening Stitching Circle meets every Monday from 6:30-8p.m., and the Afternoon Stitching Circle meets every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. New members are always welcome and should bring their own materials. There are currently between 12-15members who sew, knit and crochet. The group works on personal projects as well as service projects to benefit the community. Come join in loads of fun & stitching! Writers group: Mifflin Writers Group continues to meet the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month from 6:30-8 p.m. Mifflin Writers Group is composed of writers of all genres and levels of experience. Their purpose is to motivate, inspire, instruct, inform, share and critique each other in their writing efforts in a free flowing and relaxed atmosphere. Most programs encourage pre-registrati­on and take place downstairs at the Mifflin Community Library unless otherwise noted.
