Local players named All-States
Saints’ Glanski, Wilson make 4A team; Wilson’s Reynoso on Class 6A team
The 2016 Pennsylvania Football Writers’ All-State Teams were released last week with more than a couple Berks County players represented.
Exeter’s Gabe Schappell was chosen as a tight end on the Class 5A team; Berks Catholic’s Marcus Wilson and Ryan Glanski were named to the Class 4A team as a running back and defensive lineman, respectively; Wilson’s Iggy Reynoso was one of five running backs chosen to the Class 6A team.
Wilson finished as the Berks Catholic’s all-time leading rusher (3,056 yards) while Glanski was selected Offensive Linemen and Defensive Lineman of the Year in Section 2 of the Berks Football League. He played center and defensive tackle. The pair led the Saints to a 12-2 record that featured a District 3-AAAA championship and berth in the PIAA semifinals.
Schappell caught 47 passes for 908 yards this season and helped pave the way for two 1,000-yard rushers (quarterback Brandon Unterkoefler, running back Nick Sarangoulis) for the 8-3 Eagles, who finished second in Section I and reached the District 3 5A playoffs where they fell to eventual state finalist Harrisburg.
Reynoso, the Berks Foot- ball Player of the Year, led the county in rushing with 1,668 yards and 26 TDs and helped the Bulldogs to the semifinals of the PIAA Class 6A championships.
