Police have released the identity of the pedestrian killed in a crash on Route 422 on Feb. 1.

Police have identified Alcides Garcia-Renta, of Reading, as the victim in Wednesday’s fatal crash.

Police said in a press release Thursday that they have determined Garcia-Renta had walked into the middle of the 4600 block of Perkiomen Avenue (Route 422) as a gray Hyundai Sonata driven by Nina Basile, 62, of Reading approached. Basile was unable to avoid a collision with Garcia-Renta and he fell to the ground on the road after he was struck. Before anyone else was able to reach Garcia-Renta, a white Acura driven by Charles Chevick, 47, of Reading, also struck the him, police said.

Exeter Police said they are now exploring the possibility

that Garcia-Renta may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The incident is still under investigation and no determination has been made regarding charges.

Officers are now trying to establish a time line for Garcia-Renta in the hours before the crash.

Police are asking that anyone with information on his whereabouts or activities between 4 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 1 contact Exeter Township Police at 610779-1490 during business hours and leave a message with their contact information. Callers should reference case number 2517-0446.
