Gov. Mifflin snaps Wilson’s 191-meet winning streak.

Girls Swimming

Gov. Mifflin capped an undefeated dual meet season with a 104-82 win over Wilson in a first-place showdown on Jan. 31 before downing Twin Valley 11555 on Feb. 2.

The Mustangs put forth record-setting performanc­es in all three relays and Ava Enriquez, Corinne McCurley and Rebecca Brown each won two individual events, allowing GM to end Wilson’s Central Penn League dual meet undefeated streak at 191.

The 200 medley relay of Camryn Hubric, Rachel Johnson, Enriquez and Courtney Hubric touched in 1:48.07, besting Wil- son’s 2015 mark of 1:48.47. The 200 free relay of Courtney Hubric, Brown, Emma Steckiel and Neena Gollub finished in 1:36.75, overtaking Wilson’s 2012 record of 1:37.96. To cap off the emphatic win, Brown, McCurley, Enriquez and Steckiel destroyed the 400 free relay record in the CPL with a 3:32.33, more than four seconds better than Reading’s 2016 mark of 3:36.48.

The Mustangs swept the relays against Twin Valley and got individual wins from Camryn Hubric, Paige Progansky, Gollub, and Connar Melcher. The Raiders’ Hannah Schlegel won two individual events and Adeline Amber-Messick and Reagan Wittorff won a race.

EXETER>> The Eagles fell to Wil- son 132-54 on Feb. 2 and are 4-4 on the season.

Wilson’s Sophia Appler swam on three winning relays and won the 200 IM and 100 butterfly in the win over Exeter, which got its lone with from Brooke Bollinger in the 100 breaststro­ke.

Boys Swimming

GOV. MIFFLIN >> In a first-place showdown, Wilson proved too much for Gov. Mifflin in a 13847 win.

Donovan Curran won the 200 free and 500 free and Andrew Sillhart took the 200 IM and 100 butterfly to lead Wilson. Trevor Woolwine won the 100 free for Mifflin.

On Feb. 2, Gov. Mifflin bested Twin Valley 116-49. Woolwine won the 100 free and 100 back and Jake Novotny too kteh 200 IM and 100 breast.

EXETER >> The Eagles are 4-4 in duals this season after a 114-72 loss to Wilson on Feb. 2.

Exeter’s Matt Feryo won the 200 free, 500 free and anchored the winning 400 free relay. Donovan Curran won the 200 IM and 100 free for Wilson.

Boys basketball

GOV. MIFFLIN >> The Mustangs went 2-1 last week but had to settle for second place in Berks I after a 7955 defeat to Reading on Feb. 2 (story on page 1). The loss was sandwiched around wins over Wilson, 47- 42 on Jan. 31, and non-league Hempfield, 49-43 on Feb. 4.

The Mustangs held off Wilson despite the game being within a point with under two minutes to play. Joevanni Mojica (10 points) and Bubba Peters hit late free throws to preserve matters while Casey Klahr scored 12 and Isiah Tisdale 11.

Gov. Mifflin overcame a sluggish start that saw it trail 32-16 at halftime. The Mustangs out-scored the Knights 15- 4 in the third quarter and 18-7 in the fourth to secure the sixpoint win. Peters led with a game-high 22 points, Mojica netted 10 and Dylan Patton scored all of his eight points in the decisive final quarter.

EXETER >> The Eagles went 1-2 last week and are 3-6 in Berks I, 10-11 overall. Exeter lost to Reading 76-53 on Jan. 30, defeated Muhlenberg 53-37 on Feb. 3, and fell to Manheim Township 80-64 on Feb. 4.

Exeter couldn’t stop surging Reading, which carried a 38-18 lead into halftime. Lonnie Walker IV scored 24 – 19 in the first half – and Tyrone Nesby IV added 17 in the win. For Exeter, Riley Dobranieck­i scored 19 and Malik Clark added 12.

McDonald’s All-American Walker set Reading’s all-time scoring record, eclipsing former great Donyell Marshall’s mark in the third quarter.

The Eagles used a sparkling start against the Muhls while building a 16-point first-quarter lead. Devon Jackson dropped 30 points and Dobranieck­i chipped in 11. Dreyton Kipp scored 17 for Muhlenberg.

Against Manheim Twp., Jackson (28) and Clark (17) combined for 45 points but the Eagles couldn’t keep pace with the strong Blue Streaks.

DANIEL BOONE >> A fourgame week saw the Blazers go 2-2 and end the week 1-8 Berks I, 7-13 overall.

Daniel Boone fell to Muhlenberg 67-59 on Jan. 31, topped Fleetwood 66-63 on Feb. 1, lost to Wilson 6641 on Feb. 3 and ended the week on a high note with a 66-54 win over non-league Donegal on Feb. 4.

Muhlenberg’s Kipp scored 27 to offset Chaunce Johnson’s 24-point game for Boone. Ryan Okuniewski added 20 for Boone.

Kyle Coldren and Grayson Kline helped Wilson to a 22-point halftime lead by scoring 14 apiece. Okuniewski led the way for the Blazers with 19.

Against Donegal, the Blazers played a strong second half to take control after trailing 28-24 at halftime. Okuniewski scored 24, Johnson 18 while Tyler Dorang and Ian Rathgeb netted nine apiece.

Girls Basketball

GOV. MIFFLIN >> The Mustangs have been hit by the injury bug while seeing season-ending injuries hit top players Jennifer Martin and Ta’Shonna Wright-Gaskins.

Gov. Mifflin went 1-1 last week, losing their first Berks I game to Wilson, 4234 on Jan. 31. They topped Reading 49-41 on Feb. 2.

Wilson closed the game on an 11-0 run to deny Mifflin while getting 13 points from Zakiyah Winfield. Kyra Hartmn scored 17 points in the loss.

DANIEL BOONE >> The Blazers went 0-3 last week in falling to 5-16 (0-9 in Berks I). Boone fell at Twin Valley, 47-32 on Jan. 31, 62-22 at Wilson on Feb. 2 and 5741 to Donegal on Feb. 4.

Kaylie Walker and Sydney Hayes had 10 and nine points, respective­ly against Twin Valley. The Raiders’ Peyton McDaniel scored 18.

Donegal pulled away in their non-league matchup with Boone. Madison Spitko scored 14 for the Blazers.

EXETER >> The Eagles got their second Berks I win of the year, 52-43 over Reading on Jan. 31 before falling to Manheim Township 3735 on Feb. 4. Exeter is 2-7 Berks I, 6-15 overall.

The Eagles pulled ahead in the second quarter against Reading and got double-figure scoring from Sammi Snyder (17), Jordan Davis (11) and Chelseas Rousseau (10).

Against the Blue Streaks, Exeter chipped back from an early deficit but couldn’t complete the comeback. Snyder led with 14 points.

Wrestling

GOV. MIFFLIN >> The Mustangs fell to Spring Grove, 51-15, in the first round of the District 3-AAA duals tournament on Jan. 31.

Gov. Mifflin winners Jordan Espinosa (pin at 285), Joshua Liptock (6- 0 decision at 195) and Ben Maack (forfeit at 182).
