Newly formed Americans 4 Heroes serves area heroes
Nonprofit service organization serves veterans, police, firefighters, EMS
Americans 4 Heroes is a newly formed nonprofit service organization now serving Morgantown and the surrounding local areas.
Americans 4 Heroes was the dream of about a dozen people with a mutual passion to develop a veteran’s organization that was not based solely on specific years of service in the military.
As these people came together after hours of talking, they identified additional needs they would like to focus on that included the needs of first responders.
“Our members decided to expand our mission to include police, fire fighters, and EMS personnel who also serve their country and community,” said Road Capt. Paul Morrison. “From these long talks came a plan to put this passion into action for those who protect and serve to ensure our safety and freedom.”
Public Relation Officer Brenda Sorber explained the significance of the new service organization’s name. The meaning behind the number 4 in its name stands for the four groups the organization serves: veterans, police, firefighters and EMS. Americans 4 Heroes Inc., or A4H, was born to become a 501c3 nonprofit organization, said Brenda.
The mission of Americans 4 Heroes Inc. is to honor and assist military veterans, police, firefighters and EMS who are in need because of their service to their country and community or, as Vice President John Sorber has stated, “helping those who help us.”
“Unique in its design, the only requirement for membership is a heart to care and hands willing to serve. This has enabled us to expand to 31 members and growing,” said President Don Fronczak.
Membership includes adult and teen members, both men and women.
Officers newly elected in January are President Don Fronczak, Vice President John Sorber, Treasurer Candy Burkhart, Secretary Tory Drake, Road Capt. Paul Morrison, Sergeant in Arms Chris Whitfield, Chaplain Mark Himmelberger and Public Relations Officer Brenda Sorber.
While Americans 4 Heroes Inc. is a young organization, it is one that hit the ground running.
In November and December 2016, members of Americans 4 Heroes Inc. volunteered at the food pantry at Conestoga Mennonite Church in Morgantown.
On Dec. 9, 2016, Americans 4 Heroes Inc. assisted David’s Drive 831 in wrapping more than 1,500 presents for the veterans at the Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center as well as the Lebanon Veterans Affairs Medical Center. During this event, volunteers from David’s Drive 831 discussed how in the past veterans whom had received the gifts had saved the hand decorated wrapping paper and taped it on their walls in appreciation and enjoyment.
Dec. 17, 2016 was a busy day for Americans 4 Heroes Inc. Members took part in a holiday event at Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center where they shared the homemade cookies and cards that had been donated from two third-grade classes from Willow Lane Elementary in Macungie.
Other members from Americans 4 Heroes Inc. participated in Wreathes Across America at Fort Indiantown Gap Cemetery where a total of 16,000 wreathes were placed on the graves of those that made the ultimate sacrifice.
They are also available as motorcycle escorts for traditional veteran, police and firemen affairs.
Americans 4 Heroes is currently planning the first A4H Event on June 3, 2017, which will include a Heroes Ride (cars and motorcycles welcomed), three bands, food, drinks and vendors. Location and more details to be announced.
