Redistricting: A presentation on how gerrymandering affects our election will be held at 6:30 p.m .at Kutztown University, Lecture Hall 201, Academic Forum. Berks County is one of the most gerrymandered Districts in the State. The Welcome and Introduction will be by by Dr. Steve B Lem, Associate professor & Chairperson, Dept. of Political Science &Public Administration Kutztown University. Speakers are Senator Judy Schwank / Berks County 11th District “Legislating in a Polarized Environment” and Diana Dakey of Fair Districts, PA, a non partisan coalition with leadership from the League of Women Voters, PA and Common Cause, PA. The snow date id Feb. 23.

Hay Creek Valentine’s Day Breakfast Buffet : at Historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works . The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet echoes the breakfasts served in the historic furnace mansion as well as in the village workers’ homes over 226years. The menu consists of fresh country sausage, ham, scrapple, bacon, creamed chipped beef, eggs, pancakes, hash browns, toast, coffee, juice and fresh fruit accompanied by a fabulous chocolate dip. The hours have been expanded. Saturday, Feb. 18from 7a.m. to noon. Berks area vocalist Phyllis Hummel will entertain breakfast diners with her acoustical guitar and a variety of romantic ballads. Fireside story: bring your family to the Daniel Boone Homestead and enjoy a nice relaxing story by the warm fireplace on Sunday, Feb. 5and/or Sunday, Feb. 19, both will take place at 2 p.m. at the Wayside Lodge. No reservations are needed. This is a free event. The story for Feb. 5, will be The Winter Cabin - First Snowfall, this is a story of friendship and animals finding shelter. This is the type of story that might have been told to Daniel by his mother. The story for Feb. 19, will take a look at the English and the German interpretations of Cinderella. Learn how different cultures interpreted this story and what we know in America. Snow dates for these events will be Feb. 12and 26, respectively. Cookies and hot cocoa will be available for your pleasure.

High with Hope in Berks: an adaptation of the one-woman show “Drunk with Hope in Chicago.” will be performed Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 6to 8p.m. at Francis Hall Theatre Alvernia University, 400Saint Bernardine Street, Reading, PA 19607. This free public performance is play about addiction, recovery and HOPE.

Birdsboro Rotary: Birdsboro Rotary Club meets 6:30p.m. every Thursday at the Reading Country Club, 5311Perkiomen Ave, Reading. Pagoda Writers: The Pagoda Writers group gets together from 1to 3p.m. the first Saturday of every month on the second floor of the Pagoda, 98Duryea Dr., Reading. Stitching Circle: The Mifflin Community Library’s Evening Stitching Circle meets every Monday from 6:30-8p.m., and the Afternoon Stitching Circle meets every Wednesday from 1-3p.m. New members are always welcome and should bring their own materials. There are currently between 12-15 members who sew, knit and crochet. The group works on personal projects as well as service projects to benefit the community. Come join in loads of fun & stitching!
Writers group: Mifflin Writers Group continues to meet the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month from 6:30-8p.m. Mifflin Writers Group is composed of writers of all genres and levels of experience. Their purpose is to motivate, inspire, instruct, inform, share and critique each other in their writing efforts in a free flowing and relaxed atmosphere. Most programs encourage pre-registration and take place downstairs at the Mifflin Community Library unless otherwise noted.
