Celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday

The halls of Amity Elementary Center were filled with some slightly taller students on March 6 as members of the Daniel Boone High School Future Business Leaders of America visited. Seven students visited classrooms bringing engaging stories and amusing activities as a continued celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday r. Seuss was well rep- resented in the readings. Alex Bortz headed to Mrs. Brady’s 1st grade classroom to read “And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street” and inadvertently ended up engaged in a discussion on lying. Mrs. Overley’s 1st grade class was visited by Breana McNamara who brought in lesson plans to go with her reading of “Hop On Pop.” Luis Barrales settled in to Mr. Adamski’s 1st grade class to introduce an adventuresome teddy bear in “A Pocket For Corduroy.” Trisha Bhatt and Maddy Okkerse opted to present two books to Ms. Preletz 2nd grade group, “When You Give a Mouse a Cookie” and “The Silly Scare Crow.” Miss Siegle was quite surprised to find a cowgirl and cow at her doorway as Demi Kishbaugh and Cole Reinert arrived and read an interactive tale of Sixteen Cows to her 2nd grade class.

Principals of both the High School and Elemen- tary School assisted in the process as a continued opportunity to present the older students a chance to bridge the distance that could normally make high school seem so far from elementary. Opportunities like Safe Trick or Treat Night and Seussical enable younger students to bring joy to the older students as they learn skills in presentation and time management that will surely benefit them in the business world.
