RE: Southern Berks News 3-15-2017 — ‘Too many budget assumptions’

To Lowman S. Henry:

Your column contained more common sense than has come out of Harrisburg.

Here is a point to add to it:

When Gov. Ed “Fast Eddie” Rendell was selling casino gambling to the Legislature, Rendell guaranteed $1 billion annually to the schools. He could not offer anything less to the Legislators, because they would have told him where to put his casino gambling.

We have not yet received the first $1 billion, let alone the money for the second through sixth years. He will soon owe the money for the seventh year. Rendell guaranteed this, so it is his debt, and he owes it.

Could there be a journalistic demand that Rendell pay his debt? A few days after he signed casino gambling into law, radio station WEEU had a news announcement that 2/3 of the gambling money would go to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh for public transit.

After all the skimming by government occurred, there was next to nothing for schools. — Ronald Shultz
