Legion post announces Memorial Day plans

EXETER >> The American Legion of Exeter Township will host its annual Memorial Day services on Monday, May 29, with the parade beginning at 9 a.m. a the Exeter High School. It will conclude with a service at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

During the service following the parade, there will be wreaths distribute­d on the graves of the three servicemen the Post is named after. Firefighte­rs and others will distribute wreaths on graves of their lost comrades, and families to will come together to honor those buried at Forest Hills.

Former Exeter School Board President Lt. Col. Robert H. Quinter Jr., USMC (retired), to serve as grand marshal and keynote speaker.

The service will be held rain or shine. If it rains, the cancellati­on of the parade will be announced via WEEU 830 AM radio by 8:30 a.m. The American Legion Post waits at the high school until 9 a.m. If the parade is canceled, at 9 a.m. the Post will make their way to the cemetery. There will be tents set up for the service to be conducted.

Participan­ts are encouraged to arrive by 8:30 a.m.

The First Division (veterans, speakers, and Exeter groups) will assemble from 37th Street above the high school to the parking lot behind the school. The Second Division (groups from Mt. Penn, Antietam, and surroundin­g areas) will assemble from the parking lot below the high school. to the driveway which exits at Reiff Place.

The Exeter Township Fire & EMS Department will assemble on Woodland Avenue at 37th Street. Antique and classic cars always line up on Woodland Avenue between the Exeter Junior High School and the high school lower parking lot.

The service will end at approximat­ely 11:15 a.m.
