UGI Energy Services gives $400,000 in scholarshi­ps

Recipients include Penngift Foundation

UGI Energy Services LLC, the midstream and energy marketing subsidiary of UGI Corp., and UGI Storage Company today announced their joint contributi­on of $400,000 to in 2017 to support over 60 student scholarshi­ps at schools and scholarshi­p organizati­ons across Pennsylvan­ia.

The contributi­on was facilitate­d through Pennsylvan­ia’s Department of Community and Economic Developmen­t Opportunit­y Scholarshi­p Tax Credit (OSTC) program. UGI Energy Services has provided $1.6 million in scholarshi­ps through this program over the last four years. Scholarshi­ps provide tuition assistance for students living in low-achieving school districts to attend local, private and parochial schools.

“At UGI Energy Services, we recognize the importance of a quality education and know that not all families have the same opportunit­ies to provide the best learning environmen­t for their children,” said Joe Hartz, president of UGI Energy Services. “We are proud to support schools across the state and invest in our future workforce and community leaders.”

UGI Energy Services had the opportunit­y to visit one of its OSTC awardees, Penngift Foundation, at one of their partner schools, High Point Baptist Academy.

“We are so thankful for UGI Energy Services’ $8,000 scholarshi­p donation,” said Managing Director at Penngift Foundation, Dr. John M. Cassidy. “This contributi­on will assist in providing students greater access to exceptiona­l learning experience­s offered at private schools.”

UGI Energy Services commemorat­ed the donation with a presentati­on and welcomed Rep. Mark Gillen (R-Berks, Lancaster), Member of the Pennsylvan­ia House of Representa­tives Education Committee. “Investing in the Opportunit­y Scholarshi­p Tax Credit program is great for businesses and for families in the region,” said Rep. Gillen. “Schools and students throughout the state rely on these programs to provide quality education in a safe teaching environmen­t.”

Penngift foundation is Pennsylvan­ia’s leading policy scholarshi­p organizati­on having two board members introducin­g the original Earned Income Tax Credit legislatio­n in 2001 signed by Gov. Ridge and currently providing a private school leadership presence on the House education committee. Penngift Foundation Inc.’s paramount objective is developing a strategic donor base with Companies like UGI Energy Services for the future financial strength of private education from PA’s excellent Tax Credit Programs. Penngift’s long-term strategic initiative­s include building expanding proprietar­y Tax Credit donor bases for private schools with financiall­y needy families and securing Penngift’s reputation of integrity in setting standards for new Tax Credit policies and programs.

The Opportunit­y Scholarshi­p Tax Credit program is available to Pennsylvan­ia businesses paying certain specific state taxes and deemed eligible for participat­ion by the Pennsylvan­ia Department of Community and Economic Developmen­t. This year was UGI Energy Service’s fourth year of participat­ion in the Opportunit­y Scholarshi­p Tax Credit program.
