Mifflin girls soccer into BCIAA semis

Girls soccer

The Gov. Mifflin girls soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the BCIAA playoffs on Oct. 14 with a 2-1 win over Conrad Weiser.

The No. 4 seed Mustangs (13-5-1) got a pair of goals from freshman Madelyn Frey to set up a meeting with No. 1 Fleetwood (18-0), a 4-0 quarterfin­al winner over Wyomissing. The semifinal was set for Oct. 16 at Tulpehocke­n.

GOV. MIFFLIN 2, DANIEL BOONE 0 » Gillian Maack scored twice, leading the Mustangs to a win over the Blazers on October 9th. Julia Hansford had 17 saves in net for Boone.

EXETER 9, READING HIGH 0 » The Eagles’ offense exploded for nine goals in their win over Reading on October 9th. Michelle Mesquita and Jackie Richards each scored twice for Exeter in the win.

DANIEL BOONE 6, READING HIGH 1 » The Blazers scored six first half goals, including two each from Madison Spitko and Hannah Starolis in their win over Reading on October 11th. Alyssa Breidigan and Madalynne Forster each added goals for Boone who moved to 4-6 in league play and 8-8-1 overall.

WILSON 3, EXETER 0 » Amy Bossler had nine saves for the Eagles in their loss to Wilson on October 11th. Exeter dropped to 4-5-1 in league play and 5-11-1 overall with the loss. GOV. MIFFLIN 5, TWIN VALLEY 0 » Five different Mustangs scored in their win over Twin Valley on October 11th. Anna Werner, Madelyn Frey, Jenna Gruber, Gillian Maack and Kierstin Spatz each score for Mifflin (8-1-1, 12-5-1) , while Kyra Hartman had 10 saves to preserve the shutout.

Boys soccer

The Exeter boys soccer team fell in the quarterfin­als of the BCIAA playoffs on Oct. 14 in a 3-0 defeat to Wyomissing at Tulpehocke­n.

Wyomissing (15-4), which led in shots 8-5, was led by Jaxton Taylor’s two goals. Goalie Carter Stuck made fives for Exeter (8-8-1).

It was likely the season finale for the

Eagles, who are ranked No. 17 in District 3-4A (16 teams qualify).

Peter Scott scored twice to lead the Blazers to a win over Muhlenberg on October 10th. Rafael Aidukas and Kobe Darlington each added goals themselves, while Kevin Morris finished with seven saves in net. Johnny Wagner scored an overtime goal for the Eagles in their win over Reading on October 10th. Carter Stuck had 10 saves in the win to preserve the shutout for Exeter. Benjamin Myers had the lone goal for the Mustangs in their loss to Wilson on October 10th. Michale Petricoin had seven saves for Mifflin who dropped to 5-5 in league play and 7-11 overall.

Golf

Exeter’s Alex Seelig, last week’s Berks County champion, tied for fourth in boys’ AAA at the District 3 Golf Championsh­ips at Briarwood. Seelig finished with a two-day 3-over 147. Central York’s Joe Parrini won with an 8-under finish.

Seelig advanced to the PIAA Eastern Regional, held Oct. 16 at Golden Oaks in Fleetwood.

Boys cross country Field hockey

Exeter (12-6) advanced to the semifinals of the BCIAA playoffs on Oct. 14 with a 2-1 overtime win over Berks Catholic.

Peyton Halsey finished the rebound of an Aaliyah Linfoot shot in OT to lift the Eagles (12-6). Berks II champ Berks Catholic (16-2) opened the scoring through Kennedi Kutz while the Eagles leveled in the second half with Katie Dunning scoring on an Olivia Trace assist.

Exeter, which missed the District 3 playoffs, were to face Oley Valley, a 9-2 quarterfin­al winner over Schuylkill Valley, on Oct. 16 at Gov. Mifflin.

Hannah Stanislawc­yzk scored an overtime goal to lead the Mustangs to a win over the Blazers on Octobers 9th. Katie Dotterweic­h had 16 saves in net for Boone. Peyton Halsey, Olivia Trace and Lauren Beam each scored two goals for the Eagles in their win over Reading on October 9th. Katie Roper and Taylor Henderson each scored a goal for Exeter.
