Birth­day cel­e­bra­tion, Fall Lec­ture Se­ries an­nounced

The Daniel Boone Homestead has an­nounced three events com­ing up in Novem­ber. All events are held at The Daniel Boone Homestead, 400 Daniel Boone Road.

Cel­e­brate Daniel Boone’s 283rd birth­day at the Daniel Boone Homestead. Tour the his­toric area where Daniel Boone spent his child­hood. Visit the house and black­smith shop. Try your hand at 18th-cen­tury toys and games. Bill Jewell will por­tray Squire Boone, Jr., Daniel’s brother.

“Boone’s Birth­day” event will be held Satur­day, Nov. 4, 10-4 p.m. Pro­gram at 1 p.m. fol­lowed by birth­day cake. In­cluded with reg­u­lar ad­mis­sion $7/adult $4/ youth ages 5-15.

On Sun­day, Nov. 5, the Fall Lec­ture Se­ries be­gins. The pro­gram “Ed­ward, El­iz­a­beth and Their World” will be held on Sun­day, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m.

In “Ed­ward, El­iz­a­beth, and Their World”, Tim Betz, Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor of the Mor­gan Log House, looks at the lives of Daniel Boone’s ma­ter­nal grand­par­ents, Ed­ward and El­iz­a­beth Mor­gan, through the world in which they lived. Top­ics that Betz will cover are Welsh im­mi­grants, the treat­ment of Quak­ers, and what colo­nial life was like for those that found them­selves in Penn’s Woods.

The sec­ond pro­gram in the se­ries, “Samuel and Squire Boone, Jr. -- Berks County Gun­smiths,” will be held Sun­day, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. Greg Kre­itz, Com­man­der of the 1st PA Reg­i­ment of the Con­ti­nen­tal Line, will dis­cuss Samuel Boone and Squire Boone Jr. and their skills as gun builders. Th­ese Boone fam­ily mem­bers who had stayed in Berks, were part of the orig­i­nal in­dus­try that for decades built the Penn­syl­va­nia long ri­fle some be­lieve won the Amer­i­can Rev­o­lu­tion.

The Fall Lec­ture Se­ries is held in the De­turk Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­ter. There is a sug­gested do­na­tion of $2.00/ per­son.
