Sly Fox Cyclocross return Nov. 11

-

Adventure seekers won’t have to look far next month as the annual Sly Fox Cyclocross returns to Pottstown.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, beginning at 8 a.m., Sly Fox Brewing will host their annual Sly Fox Cyclocross, an off-road bike race that is open to anyone with a cyclocross bike and a USA cycling license. The course is described as tough, technical and fun — appropriate for athletes of all levels. All beer and food on site is available on a pay-as-you-go basis, along with reggae music. There is no admission fee for spectators.

This year marks the fourth consecutive Cyclocross at the Pottstown brewery, and this year’s event will be part of the PA Cycling Association (PACX) Series, featuring races at other Pennsylvania breweries, including: Swashbuckler Brewing Company, Stoudt’s Brewing, Victory Brewing and Tröegs Independent Brewing.

“We love hosting this riotous extreme sport, both for the riders themselves and for the many spectators who join us to watch the race and enjoy food specials and beer,” says Brewmaster Brian O’Reilly. “We’ll be grilling outside and serving beer all around the course, and we can’t wait to welcome the racers and spectators to beautiful Pottstown this fall.”

Cyclocross Hecklers have also emerged as one of the leading attractions at Sly Fox Cyclocross. The hecklers will be stationed on the surrounding fields and hills, armed with clanging bells and echoing air horns to try to playfully distract the racers.

The course starts at Circle of Progress and goes around the beer garden and into a wooded section. There will also be “a muddy, muscle-wrenching stair set” as part of the course.

The event is free to attend, and riders are encouraged to sign up early by visiting www.bikereg.com/the-brewery-cup. The deadline for registration is 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9.
