Seelig places fifth at state golf tourney

Exeter junior Alex Seelig placed fifth in 3A last week at the PIAA Golf Championsh­ips at Heritage Hills in York.

The BCIAA champion shot 74-72-146 to tie for fifth. He finished three shots behind winner Liam Hart of Holy Ghost Prep.

Tulpehocke­n’s Chase Miller was the champion in Class 2A after shooting an incredible 68 on Day 1 before outlasting the field on Day 2 with a 79.

Cross Country

The District 3 Cross Country Championsh­ips were held on Oct. 28 at Big Spring High School.

Gov. Mifflin junior Andrea Miller placed fourth in the 3A girls’ race in 19:08 while leading the Mustangs to a sixth-place team finish. Miller was joined in the top 50 by senior Jessie Taylor (12th, 19:32) and senior Kayla Clark (33rd, 20:09).

Daniel Boone (11th) was led by sophomores Vivian Kase (47th, 20:37) and Carlina Davis (77th, 21:14).

Exeter (14th) was led by sophomores Katherine Kerchner (45th, 20:32) and Isabella Karstien (57th, 20:44). *** Twin Valley placed second in the boys 3A team race, the Raiders’ 152 points trailing only champion Hempfield (110).

Twin Valley got top 25 finishes from senior Chase Knorr (14th, 16:36) and senior Garrett Knorr (21st, 16:42) and junior Dylan Servis (25th, 16:45).

Daniel Boone, which placed 18th as a team, was led by sophomore Alex Pingitore (18th, 16:37) and senior Zach Murray (30th, 16:51).

Gov. Mifflin, 21st as a team, had junior Alexander Ermold place 20th (16:42) followed by senior Elias Brower (69th, 17:29).

Mechanicsb­urg senior Morgan Cupp won the race in 16:04. Wilson’s Jake Underwood placed seventh (16:24).
