Berks Youth Cho­rus an­nounces fall con­cert date.

Berks Youth Cho­rus is pleased to an­nounce the first con­cert in its 26th sea­son. Vi­sions and Mem­o­ries will be held at 4 p.m., Sun­day, Nov. 19, at Atone­ment Lutheran Church, 5 Wy­omiss­ing Blvd., in Wy­omiss­ing. The con­cert will be spon­sored by the law firm of Steven & Lee/Grif­fin in Reading.

The con­cert will fea­ture mu­sic that brings to mind what is im­por­tant in life. Mu­sic will in­clude the stir­ring “Mag­ni­fi­cat and Nunc Dimit­tis” by Ralph Vaughan Wil­liams; the touch­ing “Want­ing Mem­o­ries” by Sweet Honey in the Rock singer and com­poser, Dr. Ysaye M. Barn­well; the ex­quis­ite “For the Beauty of the Earth” by John Rut­ter; and the charm­ing blues set­ting of the nurs­ery rhyme, “Mary had a Lit­tle Blues,” by Charles A. Collins.

The con­cert will in­clude per­for­mances by au­di­tioned mem­bers who are placed in one of the three lev­els of the cho­rus: MasterSingers (high school girls and boys with changed voices) led by Christo­pher Hoster; Cho­rale (chil­dren in grades 5 through 8) led by James Wil­son; and Train­ing Cho­rus (chil­dren in grades 3 and 4) led by Michelle Metz.

Gen­eral ad­mis­sion is $15 for adults and $10 for stu­dents. VIP seat­ing is $25. Tick­ets may be pur­chased in ad­vance by call­ing 610898-7664 or, as avail­able, at the door.

With its head­quar­ters and many re­hearsals lo­cated in Reading’s ge­o­graph­i­cally ac­ces­si­ble Gog­gleWorks, and through com­mu­nity en­gage­ment projects such as Sum­mer Sing, Berks Youth Cho­rus is ded­i­cated to mak­ing lifechang­ing mu­si­cal op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able to all chil­dren. Berks Youth Cho­rus pro­vides a safe, nur­tur­ing en­vi­ron­ment where singers achieve, be­come en­gaged in a com­mu­nity of fel­low singers, and are nour­ished ar­tis­ti­cally, emo­tion­ally, and spir­i­tu­ally.

The Cho­rus works with area pub­lic and pri­vate school mu­sic teach­ers to re­cruit singers for mem­ber­ship and for Sum­mer Sing. Singers rep­re­sent school dis­tricts, pri­vate schools and home schools through­out Berks County.

The con­cert sea­son is sup­ported by Penn­syl­va­nia Coun­cil on the Arts, a state agency, and Reading Mu­si­cal Foun­da­tion.


The mis­sion of the Berks Youth Cho­rus is to en­rich our com­mu­nity by fos­ter­ing and pro­mot­ing choral ex­cel­lence in young peo­ple through mu­sic ed­u­ca­tion and qual­ity per­for­mances.
