Gov. Mifflin, Berks Catholic shore up section titles

GOV. MIFFLIN 51, CONRAD WEISER 0 » The Mustangs finished the regular season with their fifth-straight blowout to secure an unbeaten run to the Berks Football League Section 1 title.

It is Gov. Mifflin’s second division title in a row.

Isaac Ruoss ran for three touchdowns and quarterbac­k Kam Wolfe went 7-for-7 for 200 yards and a TD while also running for a pair of scores as GM built a 37-0 halftime lead.

Michael Franks caught three passes for 96 yards, Tyshaun Weaver had a receiving TD and Jaden Quilles ran for a TD.

Gov. Mifflin is the No. 4 seed for the District 3-5A playoffs and will host No. 5 William Penn on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. With a win, the Mustangs would meet the winner of No. 8 Exeter and No. 1 Harrisburg, the reigning district champions and team that ended their season in 2016.

BERKS CATHOLIC 28, WYOMISSING 0 » With Cooper Lutz and the Saints’ defense leading the way, Berks Catholic clinched an unbeaten regular season and Section 2 title with a 28-0 victory over previously unbeaten Wyomissing on Nov. 3.

Lutz scored all four touchdowns and rushed for 211 yards, finding the end zone once in each quarter.

The Saints (5-0, 10-0) completed their first perfect regular season in three years.

Berks Catholic enters the District 3 Class 4A tournament as the No. 1 seed and will host No. 8 Gettysburg on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m.

The Spartans (4-1, 9-1) qualified to the District 3 Class 3A playoffs as the No. 2 seed. They will host No. 3 Littlestow­n this week at a time to be determined.
